Flames' Scholar Noor ends Kampong's 14-year title drought

Flames' Scholar Noor ends Kampong's 14-year title drought

Noor van Rietschote caught the eye of Steve Waugh at one of the Amsterdam Flames community training clinics. Her wicketkeeping technique stood out, and Waugh admired her natural ability. That talent earned her a scholarship, offered by the Amsterdam Flames together with one of our sponsors, Private Invest. The trip is also supported by an additional contribution from SV Kampong Cricket. Noor then matched the opportunity with a perfect follow-up.

On September, she helped Kampong end a 14-year wait for the national title, the Inspire Women's T20 Topklasse. Kampong had finished the league season on top, but still had to win the final against The Hague AllStars to claim the title. Chasing 114 in a tightly contested match, Noor scored 18 valuable runs to steer her side towards the finish line. She was run out in the final over, but by then the groundwork had been laid, and Kampong won with one ball to spare, sealing their first national title in 14 years.

Cricket runs in the family. Noor is the fifth generation to play the game, and she is determined to continue the story. Her dream is to play for the senior national team, and to represent the Netherlands for a long time to come.

Now, the next chapter awaits. From February 2027, Noor will spend ten weeks at the prestigious Gary Kirsten Academy in South Africa, training six days a week to take her game to the highest level. Her ultimate ambition is to secure a regular place in the Netherlands national team.
